Training and Education
Dr. Feetham graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Tech University. She was innately drawn to the field of medicine and was encouraged by her mother to turn her long-standing admiration of physicians into her career goal.
Navigating the process of becoming a physician was uncharted territory for the young college student, but Dr. Feetham more than rose to the occasion. She completed her medical education, postdoctoral training, and dermatology residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, where she was elected to the prestigious medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha.

Choosing Dermatology
Dr. Feetham’s passion for the field of dermatology began soon after losing her aunt to metastatic melanoma in 2004. In her words, she explains:
“She, like so many, spent years in the sun and was not regularly checked by a dermatologist. Through her diagnosis, I learned that early detection could increase life expectancy by reducing the chance of metastasis.”
— Jill Feetham, MD

Meet Dr. Stetler Meet Dr. Polder Meet Dr. FeethamIn Her Own Words: A Q&A With Dr. Feetham
- What is the most satisfying part of being a dermatologist?
- Being a dermatologist allows me to instill confidence in my patients. Our culture places such importance on our outer appearance that when skin disease or aging alters one’s appearance, it can be quite devastating.
When a patient returns for a follow-up visit with improvement, the joy and confidence on their face can light up the room. To be a part of this transformation is truly satisfying! - All of you spend time teaching medical students. Why is that important to you?
- Medical students and dermatology residents always ask thought-provoking questions that encourage me to stay current on the latest research and developments in the field of dermatology. Many times, I learn just as much from my students as they learn from me.
Additionally, the education of a medical doctor has been compared to the metaphor “standing on the shoulders of the giants before us.” To be able to share my career discoveries with the next generation of doctors so they can discover new truths and achieve new heights is very rewarding. - Were you born and raised in Texas?
- I was not born in Texas but got here as fast as I could! I have lived in Texas since I was 6 years old (except for one year in Southern California). I completed all of my medical training in Texas at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. My husband and I are grateful to be living in such a wonderful state to raise our family.
- How has cosmetic dermatology changed since you started practicing?
- We now live in the “selfie” era, with expectations of immediate gratification. Patients of all ages come to me in hopes of improving their appearance with subtle changes in order to be “camera ready” with little downtime.
This desire to look one’s best at all times has challenged me to customize cosmetic procedures that provide more immediate results, have longer-lasting effects, and keep “social downtime” to a minimum. - How would you summarize your philosophy about treating dermatology patients?
- My philosophy is to treat each and every patient as I would want to be treated. I aim to listen intently to my patient’s concerns and customize a treatment plan that fits into their daily life. Educating my patients on the treatment benefits and risks is vital so they leave the appointment feeling involved in the treatment decision.
Each patient is unique, and I have the wonderful opportunity to tailor his or her treatment to the best of my ability. The greatest compliment is when a patient refers me to their family and friends. - How do you spend your time when you’re not in the office?
- My greatest joy comes from quality time with my husband and our 2 boys. Since I am outnumbered, 3-to-1, our days and activities are filled with exploring the great outdoors and traveling to new locations.
When I have a few moments to myself, I enjoy planning all the aspects of our next vacation and flipping through home décor magazines.
