Choosing the Right Skincare Treatment

Skincare

One of the exciting things about being a dermatologist at our Dallas Center for Dermatology & Aesthetics is the extensive menu of skincare treatments we offer. We pride ourselves on customizing treatments to meet the specific needs of each patient, something that isn’t possible at practices with fewer options.

Beyond providing a wide range of choices, we also have the expertise to know which treatment or combination of treatments best suits certain skin types and conditions. That’s why we encourage all of our patients considering cosmetic skincare procedures to schedule consultations to discuss their aesthetic concerns and goals.

In this blog post, I’ll describe some of the most common skincare treatments we offer and the types of conditions they treat. This will help you understand the various types of laser skin resurfacing treatments we offer in Dallas and introduce you to the basics of microneedling, a procedure that is trending right now and which we often combine with laser procedures.

Fraxel® Skin Resurfacing

Fraxel treatments actually encompass a suite of procedures that include Fraxel re:store® and Fraxel re:pair® for skin resurfacing. These treatments are effective for patients concerned about skin imperfections such as fine lines and wrinkles, scarring, pigmentation irregularities, sun-induced redness, and even skin laxity, to some degree. What sets Fraxel treatments apart from other laser skin resurfacing techniques is that they produce results without lengthy recovery times. Patients who prefer undergoing multiple treatments with minimal downtime are ideal candidates for Fraxel re:store.

IPL Photofacial

An intense pulsed light (IPL) photofacial treats age spots, small blood vessels, redness associated with rosacea, and fine lines using short bursts of visible light over the skin’s surface. Each of these skin imperfections can be treated with other procedures, including lasers, that isolate specific concerns. But an IPL photofacial addresses all of the patient’s concerns at the same time.

Laser Resurfacing

More aggressive laser skin resurfacing treatments heat the deeper layers of the skin to stimulate long-lasting changes. These types of treatments involve a longer recovery than Fraxel re:store but produce more dramatic results after a single treatment session. Laser resurfacing is a good choice for patients concerned about uneven skin color, wrinkles, scarring, and sun damage.

Microneedling

Our Dallas practice uses the SkinPen™ for this simple treatment that can improve the skin’s texture and appearance by stimulating the body’s natural healing process to produce new collagen and elastin. Those materials are the foundation of smooth, tight skin that looks youthful. Microneedling works by creating precise, microscopic channels at various depths of the skin. We may recommend combining microneedling with other skin rejuvenation treatments, such as Fraxel, to enhance the results.

Even if you think you know what treatment you want, the key to matching the correct treatment to your skin concerns is to schedule a consultation with a board-certified skin care specialist.
