Since its release last year, we’ve seen a big surge in interest in KYBELLA at Dallas Center for Dermatology and Aesthetics. It’s easy to see why it has generated so much buzz: The treatment is unlike anything else available. It’s revolutionary in its ability to dramatically reduce the appearance of a double chin, without incisions and with minimal downtime.
Because KYBELLA is relatively new, though, online resources haven’t yet caught up with some of the most common questions we get about the treatment. Here are 3 of the things most patients typically want to know.
Q. How much does KYBELLA actually cost?
- We charge $750 per vial used in a treatment session.
- Patients require an average of 2 vials per session to properly cover the treatment area.
- Most patients need 2 to 3 treatment sessions to see their desired results.
However, this will vary depending on the individual. We customize treatments for each patient and all patients respond differently.
Q. Will the treatment hurt?
Because we at Dallas Center for Dermatology and Aesthetics were the first in the region to offer KYBELLA, we have a bit more experience to share here. Mild discomfort is common after a treatment session, but will likely dissipate in a few days. We combine topical and local anesthetics (based on the patient’s preference) to make the procedure itself very tolerable.
Dr. Stetler is also a KYBELLA trainer who teaches other physicians how to administer the injections, so she is particularly adept at managing patient discomfort after a session. Her advice is to take ibuprofen 1 hour prior to treatment, use ice packs afterwards, and avoid cardiovascular exercise on the day of treatment to minimize swelling.
Q. Will results be visible after 1 treatment?
Some patients do see results after 1 treatment, but it’s more common to really see more definition in the chin after 2 or 3 treatments.

KYBELLA works by using deoxycholic acid, a chemical that the body naturally produces to help it break down fats. A treatment session essentially encourages the body to mimic that fat metabolism process in the chin area, which leads to gradual removal of those fat cells over time. Subsequent sessions, spaced a couple of months apart, cause further reduction of fat cells until patients are satisfied with their results.
