What Is SKINVIVE™ Used For?

Dermal filler? Skin booster? Just what is SKINVIVE by JUVÉDERM®? SKINVIVE’s unique niche has created significant buzz since getting FDA approval in 2023. The hyaluronic acid-based product is technically a filler but works more like a skin booster that improves the appearance of your skin rather than the shape of your face. Find out what SKINVIVE is used for and more below.

What Is SKINVIVE by JUVÉDERM?

The name JUVÉDERM is synonymous with versatile injectable fillers that restore youthful-looking volume or enhance the contours of specific features. These fillers have targeted formulations to create plumper lips, fill in areas such as nasolabial folds, or elevate the cheekbones. Fillers such as JUVÉDERM and Restylane®, however, don’t address the skin’s quality.

SKINVIVE, on the other hand, is a hyaluronic acid booster that improves the skin’s texture and firmness, increases hydration, and stimulates collagen production.

How Does SKINVIVE Work?

When hyaluronic acid is injected, it attracts water molecules and increases the skin’s natural ability to retain moisture. SKINVIVE microdroplets are injected into the skin’s dermis layer rather than below it, so the treatment doesn’t change the face’s shape or volume. Instead, it improves the skin’s smoothness and elasticity, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Because it’s designed to improve the skin’s texture and glow, SKINVIVE may be an alternative to microneedling or laser skin rejuvenation treatments.

How Soon Do Results Appear?

You can expect to see an immediate smoothing of fine lines and may see some overall plumping shortly after getting SKINVIVE, but full results, including more hydrated, glowing skin, usually develop after a few weeks. The results emerge more gradually than traditional fillers.

How Long Does SKINVIVE Last?

Clinical studies performed by Allergan, which produces JUVÉDERM products, found that the results of a single SKINVIVE treatment last about 6 months. Each patient’s experience is different; your results may last longer or shorter than someone else’s.

Can Anyone Get SKINVIVE Injections?

SKINVIVE is approved for all Fitzpatrick skin types (I-VI). Anyone with dull skin or who wants smoother-looking cheeks and more hydrated-looking skin would be a good candidate.

While you can get these injections at a med spa, we highly recommend going straight to the source and booking your treatment with a cosmetic dermatologist instead. Learn why in our related blog post.

Combining SKINVIVE With Traditional Fillers

Combining SKINVIVE with fillers is an excellent solution for enhancing volume, contouring facial features, and improving the appearance of your skin. You can also incorporate injections of neuromodulators, such as BOTOX® Cosmetic, to address crow’s feet, worry lines, or other dynamic wrinkles.

SKINVIVE by JUVÉDERM is an exciting, innovative addition to our skin rejuvenation options at the Dallas Center for Dermatology and Aesthetics.
